Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are a smooth gel injectable filler made from hyaluronic acid (a naturally occurring substance in the body) used by our cosmetic doctor to effectively soften the deep folds and lines that develop over time in the face. It is commonly used to enhance the size and shape of lips, chin area, cheeks and total facial skin rejuvenation treatment.

What are dermal fillers used for?

To add volume back to your face, improve skin quality and fine lines. Over time, areas of the face naturally lose volume as a part of the aging process. By injecting a filler into these areas of the face, we can smooth out wrinkles and folds by adding back that precious volume that has been lost.

At Vital Face and Vein, we use the best technology available on the market. The Teoxane range of fillers are manufactured in Switzerland and include the unique patented long-chain hyaluronic acid fillers Resilient Hyaluronic Acid or RHA.

What areas can be treated?

• Marionette lines
• Corners of the mouth (smoker’s lines)
• Lip borders and vertical lip lines
• Smile lines (nasolabial folds)
• Cheek definition and rejuvenation
• Tear troughs
• Fine lines
• Facial symmetry

How is the filler injected?

This filler is injected into the skin to create volume, resulting in a healthy and rejuvenated appearance. Using a very fine needle or cannula, to minimize pain or discomfort, our doctor will inject small amounts into the area where results are desired. The injections create volume by filling your lips, wrinkles or folds, for a more youthful appearance. When injected into the lip it can restore a more natural and plump look. This treatment is generally quick and simple. Afterwards, you may experience some very minor side effects including swelling, redness and some tenderness. These side effects do not usually last more than a day or so.

When will I see results?

You will see immediate results of the injections after the procedure. Although, you may have some swelling right after the treatment, so your face will appear more volumised. Within a few days, the swelling will go down. It can take up to 4 weeks for the filler to hydrate and integrate into the skin and the final result is seen.

How long does it last?

Generally, the effects last for about 12-24 months, but this varies slightly from patient to patient. Injections may be repeated as necessary.

Be in safe hands for your treatment

What are the side effects?

The side effects are minimal, but common side effects can include localized pain, inflammation, redness, itching, bruising and/or swelling. These are all normal side effects and disappear within a few days. Serious complications are very rare, and the doctor will go through all risks at the time of your consultation.

How much downtime is required?

Usually there is very little social downtime after a treatment. You may have some swelling, numbness and redness for a few hours following the procedure, but you will be able to go back about your daily activities as soon as you feel comfortable with how you look.

Do dermal fillers hurt?

The products have anaesthetic incorporated into them, so this will numb the area as the area is treated. Most patients find the discomfort of the treatment acceptable. However, we recommend purchasing a numbing cream such as emla from the pharmacy and applying the cream to the area that is to be treated one hour prior to your appointment. In some instances, numbing injections may be used.

How much does it cost?

Each patient’s needs are different, so there is no one set cost. We will assess your personal needs and let you know how much your treatment will cost. Treatments generally start from approximately $795 for 1ml of filler.

Can dermal fillers and Botox® be used together?

Yes. The mechanism of action for Teosyal is different from Botox® because Teosyal dermal filler adds back volume whereas Botox® simply stops muscle contraction. These very different methods yielding very different results. However, these popular injectables are often used together to give you greater results. Botox ® prevents new wrinkles from forming and Teosyal to fill the ones that you already have. Additionally, studies have shown that by combining these two the results of the treatment will last longer. By minimizing muscle contractions with a neuromodulator, the effects of a filler last longer. During your consultation, our doctor will let you know if this combination will work for you.
